Work Strand 2 focuses on stratification through assessment of the HCV viral genome
The contribution of viral genetic elements in HCV treatment response and disease progression is poorly understood. However, recent developments in sequencing methods and bioinformatics, provides an opportunity to undertake complete genome characterisation of viral populations within HCV infected individuals.
Methods to identify naturally occurring and treatment induced mutations in HCV, which influence their response to therapy, also represents a vital component in HCV stratification.
The overall objectives of this Work Strand are to identify the viral genomic determinants that predict treatment response and the development of liver complications (in particular cancer) and to investigate drug sensitivity of various viral genotypes.
